ABOUT THE VIRGINIA SUZUKI INSTITUTE

What Makes Us Special

The transformative learning experiences at Virginia Suzuki Institute are designed to help our students grow both in and out of the classroom. Established in 1973 by William Starr (under the name Mid-Southeast Suzuki Institute), the Virginia Suzuki Institute is now located at Emory & Henry College in Emory, Virginia and reflects the vibrant energy of the area. Our passionate and skilled faculty are here to help our students make an impact on the world.

The Virginia Suzuki Institute is a privately run family-oriented music camp with a tradition going back decades. Many of our Faculty first attended the camp as students!

We have many families who return to us every year, and it's so special to see children (and parents) forming lasting bonds as they journey through life together. Each summer is like a family reunion- with the added bonus of bringing new members each year in the form of first time campers!

Our campus is nestled in the heart of the Virginia Highlands, surrounded by incredible views, magnificent summer thunderstorms, and the classic sounds of trains coursing along the tracks that pass by daily.

More than just the families and the Suzuki classes, though- VSI is about the Experience. It is amazing to see the effect on students focus and mindfulness after spending a week at VSI. Being immersed in such a music oriented environment, surrounded by dozens of other families who all believe that Every Child Can is an incredible boost to the spirit. It is a wonderful experience to be supported by a community of like-minded individuals- not just for students, but for parents as well.

The Virginia Suzuki Institute will be back in person this summer for our students, and both online and in-person teacher development workshops!

We hope to see you in June!
